Labour Demand and Supply Forecasts

Systematic monitoring and analysis of long-term labour market trends and forecasting the future situation, both in terms of quantitative needs and the knowledge and skills required, are essential to improving the adaptability of human resources and creating a flexible labour market.

Providing information on employment needs across economic sectors and occupations, as well as on the knowledge and skills required in an increasingly competitive, complex, and multicultural environment, is becoming even more important. The transition to both a green and a digital economy, the increasing use of new technologies, automation, and new forms of work significantly impact the knowledge and skills required by occupations. As a result, labour market needs are constantly evolving, leading to skills mismatches.

To address the issue of skills mismatches in the Cypriot labour market, the National Reform Programme of Cyprus has identified improving the labour market relevance of education and training as a reform priority. The provision of accurate information on future labour market needs is a key contribution to this effort. In this context, HRDA, leveraging its extensive experience and expertise in labour market issues, has conducted this study.

The main purpose of the study is to provide forecasts for both labour demand and labour supply in the Cypriot economy for the period 2022–2032. Demand forecasts are provided for 52 economic sectors and 309 occupations, while supply forecasts cover the entire economy, broken down by gender and education level.

The findings and conclusions of the study are expected to inform relevant policy decisions. Additionally, the study will be used by numerous public and private agencies and institutions, professionals involved in human resource planning and career guidance for young people, as well as the general public.

The detailed labour demand forecasts for all occupations in the Cypriot economy are included in HRDA's online tool «Labour Demand Forecasts for Occupations in the Cypriot Economy 2022–2032».
